Ian built a house at Matarangi in 1998 and moved in permanently in 2002, he has been involved in many aspects for our community.
Treasurer of Matarangi Ratepayers Assn. for 16 years including a 2 year period acting as secretary as well and treasurer of Reserves Management Group for the same period.
Played a role in final funding commitment, design and specifications of boat ramp upgrade and walkway bridge over lakes outlet off Harbour Drive.
Improved dune protection by creating formal access ways from foreshore reserve to the beach, and installed 100 bollards at access entry points and installed bollards at Ocean Close carpark to increase parking area. Worked with council staff to mark all walkway access points with TCDC distinctive blue posts.
Applied successfully to Community Board for funding towards the summer carnival for the last 10 years.
Constructed a public notice board at the shopping centre as well as bookshelves to improve capacity for the Community Library run by Richardson’s Real Estate.
Conceived, designed and drafted the text for a local history board erected at the Village Green.
In 2012 became secretary of the Rings Beach Wetland Group’s project for the conservation of birdlife, forest regeneration and wilding pine elimination and track upgrade and maintenance. Towards those objectives raised $240,000 from various funding bodies.
