Welcome to the MRRAI
Working for the Matarangi Community
Matarangi Ratepayers and Residents Association Incorporated (MRRAI) is a non-profit society organisation. Its purpose is to conserve, promote and advance the interests and welfare of the Matarangi community and represent our views to the Thames-Coromandel District Council, Waikato Regional Council, and other parties.
Bluff Road Walking Track - Community Feedback

Since the significant rockfall in 2015 that affected the bluff road track at the cove a significant amount of time and money has been spent by TCDC on erecting the now collapsed mesh system and potential options to enable safe access across this area.
We know that many people are still using the track that is essential to
allow safe pedestrian and cycling connectivity between Matarangi and
Kuaotunu.
In 2024, after no significant progress, MRRAI embarked on trying to
progress a robust solution. It was clear, that a suspension bridge across the cove was the only viable option. Should the project NOT proceed, the current dangerous track will be closed!!!
MRRAI, together with Matarangi Community Trust funded a feasibility
study to consider this option.
The final report is clear: the concept is robust and sound. Given that a significant funding commitment will be required from both within our
communities and from outside agencies it is necessary for us to
establish support levels.
